Rumble Theatre invites submissions from emerging designers (set, lights, costumes, props), stage managers and technicians who are interested in a theatre mentorship opportunity to apply for Tremors, our festival of emerging talent. Tremors will take place August 8 – 21, 2016 at the Italian Cultural Centre in Vancouver.
Tremors is a vehicle for emerging artists to build networks, receive professional mentorship and develop their craft. It will feature a company of emerging directors, stage managers, designers, technicians and actors working under the guidance of professional mentors to produce kick-ass plays. Over four days, three shows are performed simultaneously in different locations in the Italian Cultural Centre. After the curtain calls, everyone hangs out. There’s a bar. And maybe food trucks. It’s kinda like HIVE, kinda like the Fringe – a “theatre party”. Rumble provides mentorship from professional theatre practitioners and a small honorarium to all participants.
Rumble defines an “emerging artist” as a theatre practitioner (actor, designer, stage manager, technician, director) who is within five years of their professional debut. The ideal emerging artist has completed formalized training, is not yet a full member of a professional artists’ association (e.g. CAEA) and intends on making their living in the theatre. Alternatively defined as an artist who self-identifies as “young-in-craft”. For the purpose of this application, designers, technicians, and stage managers must be able to demonstrate past work (including projects as a part of a training program).
Applicants are asked to submit via email a CV and a cover letter outlining why they are interested in taking part in Tremors. We thank all who apply; however, only those selected for an interview will be contacted.
Part-time rehearsals will begin in June 2016 (based on the availability of the teams). Ample availability is an asset. Participants will be expected to be available full time from August 8 – 21, 2014. Please include a brief statement of availability (including potential scheduling conflicts) in your cover letter.
Submissions should be sent to firstname.lastname@example.org with the subject heading “Tremors Submission – Designer, SM or Technician”. The deadline for submissions is April 12th, 2016.
