Rumble Theatre invites submissions from emerging actors who are interested in a theatre mentorship opportunity to apply for Tremors, our festival of emerging talent. Tremors will take place August 11-21, 2016 at the Italian Cultural Centre in Vancouver.
Tremors is a vehicle for emerging artists to build networks, receive professional mentorship, develop their craft and work on exciting plays. Each show will be directed, designed and performed by a company of emerging artists working with the guidance of professional mentors. Rumble provides discipline-specific mentorship from professional theatre practitioners to all participants. For two weeks, three shows will be performed simultaneously in different rooms in the Italian Cultural Centre. It’s like a cineplex of theatre. With a bar.
Rumble defines an “emerging artist” as a theatre practitioner who is within five years of their professional debut. The ideal emerging artist has completed (or nearly completed) formalized training, is not yet a full member of a professional artists’ association (e.g. CAEA) and intends on making their living in the theatre. Alternatively defined as an artist who self-identifies as “young-in-craft”.
We strongly encourage submissions from artists who self-identify as members of under-represented communities. We hope to create artistic teams that represent the diversity of Vancouver.
Please note that we will be looking to cast two roles that have been specifically written for actors of African-Canadian origin.
Part-time rehearsals will begin in late June. Availability expectations will increase during tech-time and the run of the festival.
Applicants are asked to submit via email a single pdf document containing a CV, current headshot, and a paragraph outlining why they are interested in taking part in Tremors, along with their scheduling commitments for June, July, and August. Submissions should be sent to email@example.com with the subject heading “Tremors Submission – Actor”. Applicants who are offered an audition slot will be contacted after the submission deadline.
For the audition, actors will be asked to prepare two contrasting contemporary monologues (max. two minutes each) and a short piece of music to be sung a cappella.
Deadline for submissions is May 6th, 2016.
