Tremors

August 11 – 20, 2016
at the Italian Cultural Centre

Rumble Theatre’s summer festival is gritty, fresh, and outstandingly brave. But beyond the content and the actual productions themselves, [Tremors] crucially demonstrates to the theatre community, patrons and professionals alike, that young artists matter.

The 2016 edition of Tremors, our festival of emerging talent, featured outstanding scripts (Dry Land by Ruby Rae Spiegel, Better Angels: A Parable by Andrea Scott, and Bull by Mike Bartlett) and a talented company of emerging artists who directed, managed, designed, and performed the shows.

THE TREMORS 2016 PLAYS

Dry Land by Ruby Rae Spiegel

Ester is a swimmer trying to stay afloat. Amy is curled up on the locker room floor. Dry Land dives into the lives of two teen girls and explores what happens in one high school locker room after everybody’s left. Spiegel’s play, her first full-length work, was a finalist for the prestigious Susan Smith Blackburn Prize in 2015.

Audiences get ringside seats as three coworkers fight to keep their jobs. Brutal and hard-hitting, Bull is an unflinching look at a toxic corporate culture from which no one escapes unscathed. Mike Bartlett is the Olivier Award-winning playwright of Cock, which Rumble produced in our 2015-16 season.
