February 15 – 20th, 2016
Progress Lab 1422 (PL1422)
The 2016 Directors’ Lab will be geared specifically towards Vancouver-based emerging directors who want to get rigorous with the foundations of their craft, unhindered by production and scenographic considerations. Using an established text as a working model, the Lab will focus on the director’s preparation process, early stages of rehearsal and assessment and critique of the work. Over five days, participants will discuss principles of directing, examine and analyze a text, rehearse scenes with an ensemble of actors and reflect on the processes.
We are very excited to announce that Pedro Chamale will be taking over the position of Rumble Theatre’s Administrative Coordinator as Mishelle leaves for New York City.
Pedro is a first generation Canadian theatre artist who was born and raised in Northern BC. After 18 years Pedro relocated to Vancouver and received his BFA in Theatre Performance from SFU’s School for the Contemporary Arts.
Pedro is the Co-Artistic Director of rice & beans theatre, where with fellow Co-Artistic Director Derek Chan they dedicate themselves to defining the nature and function of story in a contemporary theatre that challenges the role of story and narrative.
Pedro has been a performer/collaborator on such projects as The Walking Projects: Vancouver, Crawling, Weeping, Betting (Battery Opera), Are We There Yet? (Neworld Theatre), The Show Must Go On and Poetics: a ballet brute (Push Festival). He has worked behind the scenes with local theatre companies such as: Leaky Heaven, Theatre Conspiracy, and The Only Animal. Also, thanks in part to a BC Art Council Early Career Development Grant, Pedro is the current Artistic Resident at Neworld Theatre until the end of June.
