NOTICE OF AVAILABLE POSITION:
Rumble Theatre produces contemporary plays from the Canadian and world repertoire, commissions and produces Canadian adaptations of outstanding stories, and fosters meaningful interactions between emerging and established artists. The company, along with Boca del Lupo, Electric Company Theatre, and Neworld Theatre operates Progress Lab 1422 – a shared administrative and rehearsal space off Commercial Drive in East Vancouver.
Rumble is looking for a part-time, temporary Event Assistant to assist with the preparation and execution of our 2016 Tremors Festival of Emerging Talent. A biennial theatre festival – a showcase and mentorship opportunity for emerging theatre artists in Vancouver – Tremors features the production of three short plays by a team of all emerging directors, actors, designers, and stage managers working under the guidance of discipline-specific professional artist mentors. This year the festival will take place August 11-20 at the Italian Cultural Centre in East Vancouver. The position will last from June 20 – August 26th, 2016. The Event Assistant will assist in scheduling and coordination, outreach and administration, attending and assisting with meetings, and other duties as required associated with planning and executing the 2016 Festival.
This position is funded by the Canada Summer Jobs program. The successful candidate must meet the criteria of the program as listed below:
- Be between 15 and 30 years of age for the start of the employment;
- Have been registered as full-time students in the previous academic year and intend to return to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year;
- Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act;
- Be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
The successful candidate will possess strong organizational skills and a sense of humour. They will be self-motivated, detail-oriented, and proficient at meeting deadlines and comfortable working on multiple projects simultaneously. Strong communication skills and IT skills are assets. A working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel is required. Experience with desktop publishing and WordPress are also assets. Ability to multi-task, meet tight deadlines, and work flexible hours during the festival are essential.
