Meet The Team of “Dry Land”

Tremors is one of the highlights of our season. We love working with emerging artists and watching them create art together. We’re thrilled to have such a great group of “emergies” for this year’s shows and want to introduce them to you. So, without further ado, the creative team of Dry Land, one of our professional mentors, and our festival Technical Director.

Laura McLean – Director

Laura is the co-Artistic Director of Delinquent Theatre where she has directed Never the Last,  STATIONARY: a recession era musical, and Our Time—a show for which she recently won a Jessie. Other credits include Crimes of the Heart (Bright Young Theatre), He Roars (ProVan), and Little One (BOVTS). She has her BFA in Theatre from UBC and her Masters in Directing from the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School. 

Shauna Griffin – Ester

Shauna Griffin – Ester (Dry Land)

Shauna has been working on her push-ups for Dry Land. She is a recent graduate from the Bachelor of Performing Arts program and Studio 58. Recent projects include: Watershed, a site-specific puppet show in Calgary’s IGNITE! festival, Kill Your Lovers, co-created with onstage frenemy, Anais West, and acting in Advice to Love/Hate You… at the Vancouver Fringe. 

Chris Lam – Victor

Chris is an actor, director and playwright. He has won an Ovation award for directing and is a Jessie-nominated actor. His favourite credits are Reefer Madness, 100 Saints You Should Know, and Dogfight. He was last seen performing in Stages Co.’s Awkward Conversations with Animals I’ve Fucked. He will be directing The Nether for the Vancouver Fringe Festival (at Firehall Arts Centre).

Anais West – Amy

Anais’ acting credits include: Fists (reading, Revolver Festival), The Effect of Gamma Rays on Man-in-the-Moon Marigolds (equity co-op), The Children’s Hour (Ensemble Theatre Company), Shakespearean Rhapsody (Carousel Theatre For Young People), One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest (Studio 58), Kosmic Mambo (Studio 58), August: Osage County (Arts Club). Her playwriting credits include: Kill Your Lovers (workshop reading, Resounding Scream’s PLUNGE festival) and Gunpowder Girls (reading, Playwright’s Theatre Centre’s Block A).

Elizabeth Willow – Reba

Elizabeth is thrilled to be a part of the Tremors festival, especially after having served as one of Rumble’s this past year, which was her final year in UBC’s BFA Acting program. Elizabeth’s recent credits include Schehrezade (The Arabian Nights), Eliza Millward (The Tenant of Wildfell Hall), Joan of Arc (Chamber Music), Solo Performer (The Bacchae 2.1), and Columbina in Love, Lust, and Lace—an original production being re-mounted in the Fringe this year. 

Sheila Amin – Stage Manager

Shila is a recent graduate of the Technical Theatre Program at Capilano University. Her recent Stage Management credits include: Cabaret (Exit 22), How Much Are Those Feelings in The Window (Share Productions),  Rocky Horror  Show, and Good Person of Setzuan (Exit 22). 

 

 

Sandy Margaret – Set and Costume Design

Sandy has a BA from St. Thomas University, a BFA from Emily Carr University, and completed courses in Stagecraft at Douglas College.  As emerging scenic designer, Sandy has worked at various institutions such as ArtsUmbrella and Place des Arts. Sandy presently works as a scenic artist at Great Northern Way Scene Shop and is delighted to be taking part in Tremors. 

Nicole Weismiller – Lighting Design

Nicole is a design student at the University of British Columbia. She has worked on various productions around Vancouver including: Much Ado About Nothing (Carousel Theatre), Any Night (Pacific Theatre), Wit (Pacific Theatre), Cats (Fighting Chance), I Wish… (Presentation House Theatre), Eurydice and Just Watch Me (Vancouver Fringe); she has also worked with Exit 22 and the Granville Island Cultural Society.

Dylan McNulty – Sound Design

Dylan McNulty  is currently a student of Douglas College’s Sound Engineering Program. This is Dylan’s fourth show. His previous credits include The Dirty Old Woman, which won Pick of the Fringe 2014.

 

Lois Anderson – Directing and Acting Mentor

Lois Anderson is a Vancouver based actor, director and teacher. A UBC theatre and literature grad, Lois has worked for 25 years with regional and independent theatre companies.  She was a co-founder of Cirque Poule, an original member of Leaky Heaven, a co-creator of Flying Blind and Neworld’s Devil Box Cabaret, and a leading player at Bard on The Beach, where most recently she directed Pericles.

Patsy Tomkins is a Vancouver based Technical Director thrilled to be working on Tremors with such a talented team of emerging artists.  TD Credits include : A Christmas Story (ATD, Arts Club Theatre Company), Closer than Ever (Gateway Theatre), Don’t Dress For Dinner (Gateway Theatre), and Billy Elliot (ATD, Arts Club Theatre Company).
