Rumble Theatre – 2014/15 season overview

2014/15 is going to be a busy year for Rumble Theatre.

In November, we take over the Russian Hall with Tremors, a festival that spans four days and three plays featuring a company of emerging directors, stage managers, designers, technicians and actors. We’ve chosen some fantastic scripts: Trainspotting, This is War, and The 4th Graders Present an Unnamed Love-Suicide. All three shows are performed simultaneously in different locations in the Russian Hall. After the final bows, everyone gathers for a big after-show party. There’s a bar. And food trucks. It’s kind of like HIVE, kind of like the Fringe – a four-day theatre party!

Rumble’s new commissioning program is unique in Canadian theatre. How it works is we select a classical play as a source material and then commission a Canadian playwright to adapt it for a contemporary audience. This season we will produce our first play in this program: a new adaptation of Henrik Ibsen’s Little Eyolf, called Indian Arm, written by Hiro Kanagawa. It tells the heart-wrenching story of a Vancouver family at a brutal crossroads. It will have its world premiere at Studio 16 in April 2015.

In addition to the exciting theatre we produce, Rumble continues to support the artistic community in other ways. The Living Room, one of our popular mentorship initiatives, continues this season. Emerging artists are encouraged to attend this free mixer-slash-mingler-slash-meeting where they can connect, network and share news in a casual and fun environment.

But first, we’ll kick the year off with our Hot Mess Halloween party on (you guessed it) Friday, October 31st. Our studio at PL1422 will be the place to be – so doll yourself up as a borg, a piece of French toast or a zombie Samuel Beckett and join us to celebrate and have a wicked time!

We are so excited to bring this season to the Vancouver community. We believe that a good story is at the heart of every theatre experience and we look forward to sharing and building these stories with you this year.
